Take the Week Without Driving Pledge

Take the first step in being part of a worldwide movement that’s reimagining cities were cars are an option, not a necessity. Commit to getting around without a car - for a day, several days, or the whole week - from October 1 - 8.

Sign the pledge, share your story on social media with the hashtag #weekwithoutdrivingmke and enter to win cool swag and other giveaways!

Week Without Driving CommuteWISE Challenge 

During Week Without Driving, use CommuteWISE (connect.commutewise.org and on the app store) to log how you get around. Record each trip and the mode you use, whether you walk, bike, take transit, carpool, or work from home. Tracking your trips can help you see how often you rely on different transportation options and what it takes to get around without driving. 

 

Thursday, October 1st 

Pa'ti Mujer Bus Travel Training 

Meeting point: 2525 W National Avenue 

9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  

 

Learn how Milwaukee’s bus transit system works through a hands-on experience, riding the bus together to various locations while practicing how to navigate routes, stops, and bus access. The goal is to build confidence and make using public transit easier for future trips. This event will be offered in Spanish.

Week Without Driving Kick Off/MCTS Forward Open House

Kick off the Milwaukee area’s first ever Week Without Driving and help shape the future of transportation in our region.  

  • Take the Week Without Driving pledge to become a part of the movement 

  • Sign up for the CommuteWISE challenge to log your car-free trips and track your progress against others in the community 

  • Engage with MCTS’ system redesign and provide your input

Flowers to Freshwater: A Week Without Driving Ride 

Corner of Pierce and 27th St 

Gather at 5:30 pm - Roll out at 6 pm 

 

Join Urbanistas, Oak Leaf Familia, and Red Bike & Green for an evening community ride from the Milwaukee Domes to the Lakefront as we highlight Week Without Driving. Celebrate joyful, accessible mobility by bike while connecting with others. Whether you ride daily or occasionally, this welcoming ride invites everyone to explore Milwaukee from a fresh perspective.

Granville Harvest Festival

Visit the City of Milwaukee’s Vision Zero booth to learn about efforts to eliminate traffic deaths and fatalities in the community and to take the Week Without Driving Pledge.  

 

Tuesday, October 6th  

Visibility Workshop  

Kelly Senior Center, Cudahy  

12 pm - 1pm  

 

This workshop will discuss pedestrian safety, and will give participants time to get crafty and make a reflective keychain or bag charm to increase their visibility to drivers when they are out walking. 

 

Wednesday, October 7th  

Milwaukee Night Market 

West Wisconsin Avenue, between 2nd Street and Vel R. Phillips Avenue 

5 pm - 9 pm

Cactus Club Book Club Fall 2026 – When Driving is Not an Option by Anna Letitia Zivarts 

Cactus Club 

5:30 pm – 7:30 pm 

 

Led by MilWALKee Walks and the Wisconsin Bike Federation, this discussion explores When Driving Is Not an Option by Anna Letitia Zivarts, a transportation advocate and low-vision non-driver. Through Zivarts' personal experiences and research, participants will examine the challenges faced by people who cannot or choose not to drive, while challenging common perceptions about mobility, access, independence, and the need for transportation systems that work for everyone.
