Joe Lamers
Joe Lamers is a public-sector leader with two decades of experience in management, finance, and operations. He currently serves as the Director of the Milwaukee County Department of Transportation, where he manages the administration of transportation programs that support mobility, safety, and economic growth, including the Milwaukee County Transit System, General Mitchell International Airport, Highway Maintenance, Fleet Management, and Transportation Engineering.
Joe previously spent eight years as Director of Milwaukee County’s Office of Strategy, Budget, and Performance. During his tenure, he guided a significant organizational transformation and directed the development and management of the County’s $1.3 billion annual budget, strategic planning framework, project management initiatives, continuous improvement efforts, and grant development portfolio.
Joe began his public service career in New York City, where he worked for over a decade in various leadership and analytical roles, including Assistant Deputy Commissioner at the NYC Department of Social Services and Senior Analyst at the NYC Mayor’s Office of Management and Budget. He holds both a Master of Public Administration and a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee
