FlexRide Milwaukee is an innovative, on demand, workforce transportation service operated by MobiliSE.

FlexRide grew out of conversations of regional leaders, convened by MobiliSE, that sought innovative solutions to our region’s transportation gaps. MobiliSE helped launch the service as a pilot in 2022, and later that year secured a $4.2 million Workforce Innovation Grant to sustain the service through 2024 and expand it beyond its initial service area. MobiliSE has operated FlexRide in partnership with Via, a global on demand transportation company, since April 2023.

What is FlexRide Milwaukee?

FlexRide is an on demand service that takes riders from the city of Milwaukee directly to job sites in suburban locations. Think of it as a cross between an Uber/Lyft service and a traditional bus route. Riders call for rides from their phones, but often share rides with others and are picked up from “virtual stops” near their homes.

What is MobiliSE’s Role?

MobiliSE helped secure the initial funding for the pilot, and has led efforts to sustain and grow the program through additional funding. As of April 2023, MobiliSE operates FlexRide under a contract with Via, a global on demand transportation company, who operates the day to day service.

How is FlexRide Funded?

Currently, FlexRide is funded mostly through a Workforce Innovation Grant from the State of Wisconsin, along with additional ARPA dollars through Milwaukee County. Additional funding comes from local philanthropies, participating businesses and rider fares.
