Symposium Brings Leaders Together Around Multimodal Transit

Thank you to everyone who joined us at our Sept. 28 Fall Symposium -- “Moving Forward — Multimodal Transportation for a Strong Region.”

It was a full morning of insights, ideas and innovative approaches brought forward by business, nonprofit and government leaders, who discussed the critical links between Southeastern Wisconsin’s economy and the future of transportation.

  • Executive Director Dave Steele set the stage for the morning to come, sharing some recent successes for the organization and looking ahead to what’s next. Replay

  • Waukesha County Board Chairman Paul Decker spoke about the need for transportation partnerships across county boundaries — and what it will take to get there. Replay

  • Missy Hughes, secretary and CEO of the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp., spoke about the value to the state of strong multimodal transportation in Southeastern Wisconsin. Replay

  • Our “Better Connecting Communities Through Transit” featured Brookfield Mayor Steve Ponto, Franklin Mayor Steve Olson, Waukesha Mayor Shawn Reilly, and City of Milwaukee Common Council President (now Interim Mayor) Cavalier Johnson discussing the importance of multimodal transit in their cities, the needs local employers have in connecting workers with jobs to enable growth, and potential solutions to do just that. Replay

  • Our “Connecting Workforce and Building Our Region” panel dove into the employer-employee “spatial mismatch” issue, with panelists offering insights into how multimodal transit can play a role in growing our local economies. Replay

  • We closed with “Transportation Solutions That Work,” hearing from the Milwaukee County Transit System and its efforts with MCTS NEXT and BRT; Horizons of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, an innovative approach to “last mile” transit; and the Joseph Project, a faith-based initiative connecting workers in Milwaukee's inner city with jobs in the suburbs.
